OUMA members are invited to preview one of our newest exhibitions, Phyllis Stephens: Story Quilts, on Friday, June 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Phyllis Stephens is an award-winning fifth generation quilt maker, considered by critics to be a Master of African-American Story Quilts. She has quilted professionally for more than thirty years. Her quilts are widely collected by both private and public institutions. She travels frequently to Ghana, the fabric capital of the world, and was honored to exhibit at the Fine Art Museum of Ghana.
This selection of quilted works of art is drawn from several private collections in the Atlanta metro area. Also on view will be her limited-edition portfolio and quilt storybook entitled For Crying Out Loud, a print portfolio documenting stories of ‘the stolen girls’ of the Civil Rights Movement.
The exhibition will be on view June 24 through September 17.
